Inner Strength: Basque Immigrant Women
A special photographic exhibit funded by the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Thirty-one women's portraits by Boise photog-rapher Peter Oberlindacher were featured in the show, accompanied by excerpts from interviews with Basque immigrant women by Basque scholar Begoña Pecharroman.
Peter's description best sums up the tone of the show, noting that "It's an incredible sense of self they [Basque women] have. Determination, graciousness and enthusiasm for life; also, an incredible amount of energy and pride in their culture. I tried to bring that out in the photos.
Begoña added, "...I was anxious and eager to listen to these Basque immigrant women that had been participating in the unusually hard process of settling in a foreign country...I felt enriched by their humble personalities, and outstanding experiences in shaping Basque people’s history..."
