Gernika Gogoratuz: Remembering Gernika

Basque Center (601 Grove Street)

Join us as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, a Basque town from which many of Idaho's immigrants came or are connected to.

We will begin the evening with a discussion panel led by Dave Lachiondo, PhD as he gives us some background the events leading up to this horrific day.  We will hear from eye-witnesses and survivors first hand.

Afterwards we will move over to the Basque Museum and hear from the Biotzetik Basque Choir, see a dance by the Oinkari Basque Dancers, and observe a moment of silence in honor of so many that were lost in the bombing 80 years prior.  We will then open the Basque Museum's exhibit "Gernika Gogoratuz: Remembering Gernika".

This evening's events are free and open to the public.

There will be light refreshments and snacks after the exhibit opening provided by the Basque Museum & Cultural Center.

This exhibit was made possible by financial assistance provided by the Idaho Humanities Council and The Cenarrusa Foundation for Basque Culture.  We would also like to thank the many contributors that helped to make this exhibit and the evening a reality.
